How to keep your family safe this Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day Weekend is the unofficial start to summer. Boats are out in flocks on the Kanawha River and cars are hitting the Interstate.
“This weekend a lot of activity going on. People are out and about doing things,” said C.W. Sigman, president of the Kanawha County Commission Deputy Emergency Manager.
It’s a three-day weekend for most. However, it can quickly turn into danger.
So how can you and your family remain safe this holiday weekend?
When it comes to boating, make sure you have a life jacket because the Coast Guard and local will be checking. The law requires boats to have a life jacket for every passenger onboard.
“If you have them on you are six times less likely to die in a boating accident,” said Sigman.
Drink responsibly. Have a designated boater because you can and will get a DUI while you’re on the open water.
“If we drink, we have a license to park at the levee so it’s really handy to park here and be able to be safe and not drink and drive on your boat,” said Brian Gravely, a Charleston resident enjoying the weekend on his boat.
If you plan on firing up the grill, be careful. Make sure the grill is not indoors, up against walls or underneath an overhang. A buildup of heat could ignite a fire.
“You need to make sure you turn your tank off when you’re not using it and you need to inspect the lines and the tank itself prior to using it to make sure there’s no leak so you don’t end up with a fire you don’t intend to have,” said Drew Foutty, a Sissonville firefighter.
In fact, more than a quarter of grill fires start on a courtyard or open terrace.
If you’re on the road expect to see more police than usual. Right now is the Click-It-Or-Ticket program. Law enforcement agencies throughout the nation are cracking down on drunk driving, speeding and seatbelt violations.

@superstarrajini to launch Facebook page

4 PM on May 5 witnessed an unusual increase in activities on social media platform Twitter. The frenzy was kind of expected as the southern superstar, Rajinikanth, sent out his maiden tweet. The media shy actor got over 40,000 followers in the first hour. By the end of day one, he had over 2.15 lakh supporters.
This is the highest ever in the history of Twitter India. Not even the mighty Amitabh Bachchan, who has over 8.6 million followers or Salman Khan with over 6.7 million followers managed this many followers on day one. It is just about four days now; Rajinikanth has 3.1 lakh followers.
Social media has become an important component for celebrity brand building. Celebrities are using platforms not only to converse with fans and for reputation management, but to also integrate brands that they endorse. For instance, Amitabh Bachchan who endorses Kalyan Jewellers has a blog on his Facebook page wherein he has advised consumers on buying gold wisely. Similarly, Suzuki, has used actor Salman Khan's Facebook page to do a contest around its 'Apna Way of Life' campaign. While the actor put out a short video wherein he talked about acting, body building and spending time with his family. Consumers were asked to upload videos on their 'apna' way of life. The winner got the opportunity to interact with Khan on a Google Hangout.
However, for Rajinikanth, who has never endorsed a brand, Twitter will be used as a platform to reach out to his fans and spread socially relevant messages, says Ashish Joshi, Business Head, Fluence, the digital celebrity management arm of private equity company, CA Media, which manages the digital life of the southern superstar. Joshi says that within the next few weeks they would be launching his Facebook page. "Twitter is a much more intellectual platform," says Joshi of Fluence.
Apart from Twitter and Facebook, there is a plan to create other digital assets around the actor, says Joshi. "Rajni Sir has a unique persona and style. We could use it to create digital games. We could also create interesting content on various digital platforms using his voice. We are still working out the various options," he adds

Facebook page implies plot to shoot Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy

Last Sunday, we reported that Facebook gave a "thumbs up" to a page called "Cliven Bundy Must Die" after a number of people reported it for threats of violence. In the last two days, the page seemed to ramp things up a notch when it announced the purchase of a gun and a planned trip to Nevada with the intent of finishing its "research."
"This page just purchased a gun among other trivial things today," the page said in a post on Friday. "Anyways on a side note, this pages work should be done in the next couple days."
"Second Amendment, Oorah!" the page owner added.
That post was followed up with another message on Saturday: "It is time, this page is on its way to Nevada to do a scientific case study."
Taken together, the messages would seem to imply a possible plot to shoot Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy. At the very least, the messages indicate a desire to shoot the rancher at the center of a dispute with the Bureau of Land Management.
After federal agents withdrew from the ranch in April, liberals expressed anger that Bundy and his supporters were not taken out in an assault on the ranch. A number of leftists on Twitter then demanded feds attack the ranch with drones, killing everyone on site.
Last Saturday, a report emerged claiming Attorney General Eric Holder authorized a drone strike on the ranch. The strike never happened, but a number of Oath Keepers left the area, sparking outrage from those who remained.
Stewart Rhodes, leader of Oath Keepers, later said the planned drone strike was apparently "psyops" by the government.
"We got the phone call, a guy from Texas called up and said hey, I've got contacts in DOD who've called up and told me that Eric Holder, the AG, has given approval for a drone strike on the ranch, on the entire area, including the Bundys' own personal home," he said, according to a report posted at Gawker.
While the calls for deadly force have subsided somewhat, they still appear, no doubt fueled by far left-wing sites like theDaily Kos. At least two readers of the Daily Kos, for example, called for Bundy supporters to be taken out with drones.
"It's time the Feds stopped this insanity once and for all. Give them fair warning to disband and leave the area. If they refuse, they have decided to die for a deadbeat racist. If these nuts want to put their women on the front line, then blow them all away. Seize Bundy's assets and pay the million he owes to the taxpayers," one person said. "Rightwing nuts cannot be allowed to continue breaking laws, taking over highways and roads and setting up their own checkpoints. The world will be better off without them. Call in the drones!"
"Is it time to call in the 'DRONES,'" another person added.
The page, which started a week ago Friday, laughably claims it does not condone violence, and is involved in scientific research.
